    What happened to Napster ?

Logged on and only had 619 libraries. Disconnected and reconnected to 2200 but most all the artists are gone. And I'm not talking about the top 40 or top 200 albums.
Older and Independent artists that I was listening to last night are all gone. (Vangelis for one. "No Files Found")
Anyone else find this going on? Did a stricter ruling come down yesterday or what.
    (???)

Hey Carson hows it going mate? You're not the only one I'm afraid, I've had loads of 'No Matching Files Found' on some popular recent tracks and some older ones as well. Napster really have filtered the mp3 content!

I was using WinMX recently (removed it yesterday as it wasn't connecting properly. Going to reinstall it today) and it is much better. Any song you type in will come up with numerous variations. It also has a resume feature. Pretty cool, overall!

BTW, I have Vangelis - Conquest of Paradise full compilation on CD.

You guys should try "Napigator" at www.napigator.com It integrates with the napster browser and allows you to connect to other nap servers which you can choose, and which arent so finicky about what you're downloading.

    Thanks for the info guys.
I was looking at napigator. Gonna read up on it some more.

Going ok, Goldust. Other than the music is gone.

I had just found one of those (special rare editions) of Con/Paradise. But It's gone now.
Thanks for the WinMX tip. Going there now.

EvilBP: I have Napigator as well as WinMX.

Carson: Napigator works very well, but here's a cool tip provided by Enki in this thread:

Once you have Napagator and Winmx installed, open Winmx and minimise. Then open Napagator and select Servers/Export list/Winmx[/i], in the File Name type xxxx.wsx ,x=whatever. Then save to your desktop, then simply drag and drop the file to the winmx shortcut on your desktop, and voila! mega servers, then open winmx to the servers tab and click connect all, if it fails any connections it will re-attempt automatically, meanwhile you can go ahead and search with current connections. You can also by-pass the auto reconnect by clicking "connect all" any time.
As Enki says, you will get loads of servers giving wider scope for more mp3's. Just try it out, if you don't like it you can always go back. I tried it and I've still got it!

Good luck mate, and I hope this helps.

Hey goldust. Thanks again. Gotta print that out. I wish it could be as simple as Napster. Been trying to download Napigator but the 2.02 vs. will only load about half way and then say complete. Of course it isnt.
Must be busy. Will try late tonight.
Everything I type in Napster is GONE
    Thanks again for the help.

I dont get it. After D/l napigator and clicking desktop icon... Napster will open but will not connect to server. Click on napigator tab and try a server...double click it and click search tab. Goes back to Napster and states "Disconnected" ...Click file/connect... but wont log onto server. Napster will not even connect now. opps...lockup.
    Any advise....Thanks

Carson: Can't help with your problem with Napigator but just try the procedures described in my last post and when you bring up WinMX type in Vangelis/Conquest of Paradise in the search field - you will get a bunch of hits and I'm sure you'll find the rare edition as well.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks goldust:
    Will do.

The Idea is to build a BETTER mousetrap. Something the napster clones seem to have forgotten. At least in the ease of use department.

Why not search using the GoZilla Download site rather than use Napster? Napster has gone pretty crappy since it's 9th court case and all the MP3's started getting filtered.

The upside about using the GoZilla Download site is that it usally ALWAYS comes up with a result (depending on how exact your search is) and if you have GoZilla, or even Mass Downloader, you can resume the download...and best of all... NO TRANSFER ERRORS! It works for me.

I download the MP3's into my Napster directory so that I can listen to them from there!!! Be sure that when you're searching that you write the correct filename, for example, write in "Daft Punk - One More Time" and it will come up with results for you. To make it more effective, check the box that has the word "Music" next to it so that you are only searching for MP3's.

Click on this link to go there: http://www.gozilla.com/

    HAPPY DOWNLOADING !!!!!!!!!

Hey goldust...Thanks for the tip on the drag & drop method using wMX & Napigator. I think wMX might just be a good alternative for Napster...at least for now
    Later......carson

[Edit]... Is there anyway to play a song while its downloading on winMX? It has a right click (play) but my 2 mp3 players wont play it until it downloads completely?
    Thanks Again...

On napster even songs by Madona are filtered .When you are looking for a song , try to type only a part of its name .(what it feels like for a girl) no matching files found TRY (what it feels like ) you can find , what you are looking for .Also Madona can appear as Mad0nna . And almost Napster-like : http://gnutella.wego.com http://freenet.sourceforge.net

Carson: Which MP3 players do you have? I have MusicMatch and Winamp and I am able to play the mp3's from WinMX while they are being downloaded. I right click the track and select Play. The mp3 then shows up on my MusciMatch playlist, for example, and all you have to do is point your mouse to the play button!
Keep in mind though that the song will only play after about 2% (ie after it has enough mp3 to play).
Try it this way, it may work. The only thing I find annoying is that WinMX doesn't have an internal player like Napster has, but hey we can't have everything, right?

    Hope this helps
