lost comm port
I am running Win 3.1 with a few 32 bit files
I ran scandisk and got a horrible ammount of damage files with the resulting chk files
I though it might have been a virus so I tried to run my rescue disk
My drive A had problems reading the disk - failure
I went online via internet and downloaded McAffee antivirus and ran it...no virus
went back to scandisk and Netscape,Winfax and Crosstalk ( all communication programs ) had problems with files...so I picked the fix option
I had a lot of crosslinking also
I run scandisk sometimes 3 times a week depending on usage so this worried me.
went to go online - no comm port for my modem
modem is reconized by plug and play but comm port is not reconized in DOS or Windows
ran First Aid 95 and a few others but no help
what can I do? any suggestions?
thank you in advance for your help.

Just out of curiosity, double check all your settings in the CMOS/BIOS and make sure they are correct.
Particularly, check:
1. Your Hard drive parameters (Cy,Hds,Sec)
2. Your floppy drive identification
3. Whether your com ports have been disabled.
ETC.
