Hard drive change for a Performa 6400...HELP!!
My Mac has been "dead" for three months now and I'm SICK of using this wintel at work! The techs at the CompUSA told me that all I ineed is a new hard drive (it must have caught a wicked virus).
How do I get the front cover off my computer so that I can get to the hard drive?? I've gone through all of mt manuals and even calleds Apple to no avail. I'm getting a little desperate.

Don't assume you need a new HD. In my experience, hard drives don't wear out.
To open your 6400:
Ground yourself by touching metal pars in back of Mac (see manual); unplug Mac.
To get at HD, remove large front panel:
There are 2 clips near base of panel that must be pushed up and held; then pull forward (hard) near the base of the panel.
What do you mean exactly by "dead"? There are several repair utilities that can be used if you can startup. Also, it would be cheaper to buy a good book such as The Macintosh Bible that are wondrously helpful. Check out Borders, etc.
