dead PowerMac 7200/75?
a few days ago, my 7200/75 failed to respond to any input and its clock display was frozen suddenly. Switching off and then on again, it hanged almost right away before one could zip its PRAM, with its monitor being in standby mode. Also it did not try to boot from floppy.
I was using MacOS 7.5.5, with 24 Mb RAM, no peripheral attached.
Any ideas what I can do to save my Mac? Many thanks.

Have you tried booting with extensions off? you do this by holding down shift key at power on.
if it boots like this use extensions manager and use the system 7.55 extensions only.
if this works slowly add the other extensions bacck in until you find the possible culprit. also change your internal battery. this is very easy to do

It's possible that the battery might be low too, so that would have to be replaced. Usually if the monitor light flashes on a Mac, it's because it's not getting enough power to turn the screen on. A sure way to check if the battery is low(if you can even get the computer on) is that the date will revert to 1954.
Do you hear the start-up "chime" when you turn it on?

JUST AN ODD TIP ON THE DATE SWITCH WHEN THE BATTERY IS LOW/DEAD. THAT'S STEVE JOB'S BIRTHDATE

Thanks for the tips. But can a flat battery stop the mac from booting at all? If we are sure about this, I'll give it a try.
When I switch on the mac, I do hear the start-up chime, but it doesn't boot at all: either the hard drive spins or it tries to read ROM for a couple of seconds, then nothing happens. Pressing shift key or any other normal key combinations at power-on has no effect.
Thanks again. Qiang

if you mac is "dead" try doing what the person said b4(resetting the pram)apple+option+r+p...but hold them down and wait to hear three startup sounds, and that should boot it up. also DO NOT take your computer anywhere to change the battery. Go to your local radio shack. take the cover off of your computer and find the small battery. if you're not sure what it looks like it's near the floppy drive. and it's like a small camera battery(not the flat ones) either take it with you or write the serial # down and the voltage. i cant remember off hand either of those #'s. but try that and everything should be ok.-Evan
