    Only 378mb left after a clean install

    hi guys i have a little problem with a hp netserver LH4R.

    when i do a clean install of windows xp professional i only have 378mb of free hard disk space left but i have a 4gb scsi drive it is formatted using ntfs but i doesnt say anything on the hp website about this apart from the model is unsupported but doesnt say why.

    but the total size of the folders,files etc... is about 700mb all together.

    i have looked on the microsoft knowledge base but i dont know where to start.

    thanx Mike

    A bare XP installation will use a minimum of 1.35GB Disk Space. In some instances I have seen it using 1.5GB which is recommended. Go to the Menu bar open Tools, Folder Options, View and Click Click [Show hidden files and folders] Un check Un check [Hide protected operating system files] Then you will see how big your pagefile.sys is. It should be around 200Mb if you have 128Mb Ram installed. The more Ram you have in your server the bigger your pagefile will be.

    My pagefile alone is 768 MB. Do you not have a similar sized one there?

    thanx guys for the quick replys

    i couldnt find pagefile.sys but..

    my page file is 1920mb according to the virtual memory properties.

    i have used 687mb(i choose used on disk number for this) with files,folders etc.. and my page file is 1920 so
    1920=687 = 2607

    but i have a 3.95 gb hdd so where is the other 1343mb i got 358mb of it free so i am missing nearly 1gb.

    i also got 1gb of ram so that could be why the page file is so big
    thanx for all your help

    Mike.

    Turn off System Restore and make sure Hibernation support is turned off.
