    MS Instant Messenger

How do I permanently get MS Instant Messenger out of my computer? I have removed it from MSCONFIG start up. I also removed it using add/remove Windows components. But everytime I access hot mail, it is automatically rechecked in MSCINFIG and pops back into the system tray. Theres got to be a registry hack someplace.

    Thanks.

    I found this here:
    Easily Disable Messenger TOP
    Go into C:Program FilesMessenger
rename the Messenger folder to something like "MessengerOFF"
This does not slow down Outlook or hinder system performance
    For XP Pro Edition Only:
    To use:
Download the no_messenger_xp.vbs file and save it to your hard drive .Double-click the no_messenger_xp.vbs file. You will be prompted when the script is done.
This script can be viewed in Notepad or any text editor, as to the specific Registry key and value that are updated.

Guess it would have been too easy on us to put it in an Add/Remove list.

    Thanks uffbros.

Your solution #1 worked perfectly. I tried solution #2 first, but I could not find Windows Messenger anywhere in the Windows Component add/remove.

Rwinegar, I have found that installing instant messengers from MS or AOL will simultaneously install microscopic amoebas on your computer that keep growing back no matter how hard you try to get rid of them. I once tried to eliminate every aspect of AIM from my system, scouring the registry, doing a search an destroy on anything related to it, etc. In the end I had to get my guru friend to make a house call and destroy them. I don't know how he eventually did it, but I think he used Raid or Ortho Weed Killer.
