Win Explorer CD Writer
When I insert a blank CDR in the CDRW drive and right click a file or folder and choose send to drive E, I get this error message "E:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function". The light is on on the CDRW drive and the drive letter designation is correct.
I would use this a lot if i could get it to work. Any ideas?
Dell 8200 1.8 GB P4 512ram.
Thanks.

Doggone it! I get exactly the same here. I await someone to happen along who can shed some light on this for us!
Happy computing!

I tried to call Dell tech support. I hung up on the first idiot when he told me I had to format the CDR for packet writing. IDIOT!!
I was then transferred to a busy number.
All this took an hour. Dell has gone straight to hell in a hand basket.
I am still looking for an answer.

NO! NO! NO!!!! The CDR does not need to be formatted to use the CD burner feature in XP Windows Explorer. I am not talking about using Direct CD. I know all about Direct CD. I have been using it another computer for over three years. I am talking about the burning program in Explorer. Look at your right click send to menu. It should contain both Direct CD and the CDRW drive. The CDR only needs to be formatted for packet writing when using direct CD. I just spent over $100 on books on XP and I should be able to send directly to the CD writer without formatting.
I am still looking for an answer.

OK. After calling Dell 5 times I finally got to talk to a supervisor. If there is a CD writing program like Roxio EZ Creator, Nero, Clink'n Burn, etc, installed on the computer, it will disable the functionality of the Win XP Windows Explorer CD writing program. Windows will only recognize one CD writing program. That is why when the CDR is inserted into the CDRW drive and windows asks what you want to do with it, the only options are the installed burning program or do nothing.
I have Roxio EZ Creator installed. If I was to uninstall it, the windows Explorer CD writer would become functional.
Limerick, I bet you have other burning software installed, don't you?
For those of you who still insist that this program does not exist, I suggest that you take the time to learn a little bit about your computer and how to operate it.

10-4. I've got Nero 5.5.6.4 running happily here, which came with the burner that I got a few months ago. I have no plans to uninstall it, though. I've not made a single coaster since getting this new burner, and have cranked out about 30 successful copies since installing it.
SuperSparks, looks like you may be fortunate, or lucky, or maybe both! I'm pleased to see that you are able to enjoy the best of both worlds!

I have been searching around the XP Newsgroup. It's extensive and exhaustive. Seems quite a few people are having problems burning.
Maybe someone can dig up some info there.

Try burning with explorer this way. Maybe the send to option will work after burning one.

Glad to hear that, but no amount of tweaking, or varying the installation procedure has enabled me to get my EZCD working with XP (and yes I installed all the XP patches, upgrades, etc., from their site. I also posted a thread here, but none of the suggestions helped at all. Posting a Q on Roxio's site was like shouting down a dry well--no response.)
I had to give up and stick with Nero, which I don't like as well, but at least it works!

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. Put quite simply XP's Explorer CD burning program sucks.
I am going to forget about it. Roxio works just fine. I also have the option of sending MP3 files to Windows Media Player from Wndows Explorer by highlighting and right clicking and saving as audio files. BANG!! WMP opens in CD burning mode with the songs on the left side of the screen ready to write. One more click and they are being recorded. The only thing I am loosing in XP burner is ability to make data cd's. I can perform this function easily in Roxio.
Thanks again.
