Windows xp At&t cable internet and Linksys befsr41 router
Please do not move this to the networking forum as I am pretty sure this is XP related
I have a dualboot system with 98se and xp pro using at&t cable (formerly @home) I am using a realek rtl8139 network card and the machine is set to obtain ip address automatically....saturday morning I received the email from at&t saying to change my router configuration from hard coded ip addressing to obtain an ip address automatically....now ever since then under my xp OS I get periodic dns errors...and I have to choose the tcp/ip repair function to get back to web browsing...funny thing is even when I cannot browse I can send and receive ICQ messages.....now this is what tells me it is XP related and not the hardware or settings.....when I boot this machine to 98se there are no problems what-so-ever.....(and please do not say just boot to 98) because I have a video problem in the 98 which I will post in the hardware forum....if you are interested come take a look at that problem too....all suggestions are welcome.....I am thinking about installing a different NIC in the machine tonight to see if that solves the problem very weird

Hi Sarkazztic,
Hey there, ol' buddy. I hope that things are going well for you and yours.
I have that same router, and the same NIC. No such problems here with XP. I feel somewhat fortunate that the change from @Home to AT&T has gone very smoothly for me. I've read of others who have had a heck of a time after the changeover. If you do switch out that NIC, let us know of your findings. Thanks.
Cheers!

...did you try disabling DNS? We have Charter Pipeline, and they don't have a DNS server. Could be that XP is trying to do something that AT&T doesn't support on their end, which is causing the errors.
Just my $.02
