    I'm Speechless

This post is courtesy of Windows XP, freshly installed. Man, it is FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC. I did not even have to install modem drivers. Windows found the device during setup, knew what to do with it and installed a digitally signed driver for it. I was blown away and amazed. ALL of my hardware except for Creative Miscellaneous Devices were properly recognized and installed. I am speechless. I am amazed. This is a Microsoft product?? WOW!!!! I now have considerable technical experience and I have never seen anything PC related that made this great of an initial impression on me. The ethernet client is a breeze to configure. It is pretty and hip. Friends at work that have used it said it was great--they knew what they were talking about. Now I know why ME was so pathetic--it was a Microsoft practical joke!!! Here's hoping my parade don't get rained on.

Ignore the liberal media. They do not report the news but their slanted infotainment version of it, and should be declared enemy combatants for willfully undercutting and sabotaging the ongoing war on terror. It's OK to disagree with the reason for the war, but sabotaging the effort is treason.

Don't want to burst your bubble, but I find it to be one picky os. It really doesn't support a lot of older hardware, the backwards compatability thing they touted in past os's is a thing of the past. Maybe that's why they're claiming software compatability on older platforms, but I have yet to see a default to (98-95-dos) checkbox for anything that might be associated to a file type. Yes, I've been able to get back up and continue, but I would hate to be someone who hasn't a great deal of computer knowledge buying this os for an upgrade. It would be costing me a fortune. My system is a p111 866, not old at all, so I feel it shouldn't be making me install so slowly, to isolate the causes of crashing. What happened? People often complain about this related to linux, but this is ms.

It would be a great pleasure to know I have helped you, and that the fix worked and might help others. You might help me by posting which linux distro, version, and desktop manager you use. Have a most excellent day, dude/ette.

Have to agree here, XP is is one heck of a system after 98. True problems with older hardware and software, but at the end of the day this system is buzzing.......my 2cents

    Don't complain about backward compatability.

    1. The OS supports much more DOS based programs then before. Windows NT 4 couldn't even start them at all.

    2. Windows XP doesn't support hardware at all. The hardware manufacturers decide which devices that should be supported.

Guys! Guys! And Girls(as applicable)!!I appreciate everyone's reply and respect everyone's opinion, to which they're entitled, but let's keep it civil, 'kay, Okay!!! As far as backward compatibility goes, that's why I am dual booting with 98SE and recommend that everyone else do the same, so that older hardware and software which is neither ancient nor the latest and greatest, won't have to be upgraded with hard earned cash. Why not Windows ME, instead of 98SE you say? I have left absolutely no doubt in previous posts how I feel about ME and AOL--the two biggest and most widespread viruses currently in the wild.
