Where is the automatic shutdown for atx computers

I just installed win2000 pro on an atx computer that when you did the shutdown it would power all the way off automatically under winME now with win2000 it says you may now turn of your computer and I have to push the power button for 5 seconds to get the machine to turn off....Can this be fixed?

Go into your device manager and click on the + symbol on the computer icon. You should see "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI)PC". If not, then it sounds like you may have to update your BIOS for ACPI support.

on 1 computer that solved the problem on the other when I pressed shutdown it would just reboot....bare with me I am a complete newbie with win2000 I have been using win9x systems since early 1994 but I am very fascinated with win2000 so far...it is much better....It has even setup ISA devices that win9x and ME would not even touch

jmarcus has it right. It does work for Win2k. Make sure the box is CHECKED, not blank. Reboot and off you go.

    sarrkazztic,
One question, when you say "I have been using win9x systems since early 1994" What version would that be, Win94?

Did you even read the other posts in this thread? Besides, this has been asked a hundred times on this board... You're not the only one to do it Sarrkazztic, but I wish people would search here before posting something that's been answered a hundred different times. Anyway...

If you have an ACPI compliant BIOS, and it's enabled while you perform the Windows 2000 setup, you will not have this problem. You can go back and update your BIOS, enable ACPI, and have Windows search for new hardware, then configure the APM in Windows...

Oh, and didn't everybody have Windows 94?
