WinNT setup and network ??
Ok, got my dual boot setup WinNT / Win95B working as I want. I've setup, thru NICs and a crossover, a network with a Win98 machine. My 98 machine and NT / 95 all have the same Workgroup, etc., and I'm positive they are all setup correctly with one caveat, I can't test everything on the NT machine because it can't be seen by the 98 machine.
The NT machine can see and share Drives/Directories with the 98 but the 98 cannot see the NT machine. The exception is that although I can see the partitions on the 98 machine and the files can be exchanged I can't get NT to print thru the 98.
The 95 OS can share all functions both ways with the 98 as it should be able to with the NT OS.
My guess, and it's only that since I'm just learning WinNT and all it's oddities, is it's related to the fact that I can't launch automatically or manually; Server Service on the NT machine. I always get this message: NOT ENOUGH SERVER STORAGE IS AVAILABLE TO PROCESS THIS COMMAND.
I'm at a loss as to fixing this or even why I'm getting it. Questions: Am I right that I need this service to let the 98 Machine see the NT? What do I do to make this happen if necessary?
Last, and may not be related or may well be, I have the modem setup and dialing out and making a connection with my ISP at 49,333 (my usual) but I can't get IE, Netscape or Inoculate to climb aboard and use the connection. I think it may be the Server Service and I only say that from reading the NT handbook which, as with any old Microsoft instructions, is really frustrating.
NT4 SP 5 = 1.6 GB HD, Drive 0, 64 MB RAM, 200MHz, 75 MB page file, over 1/2 free space. TCP/IP & NetBEUI protocals.
Win95B = 6 GB HD, Drive 0 (the rest the same of course except space)
Using 2 completely separate drive installations so neither have any need to know of each other's existance for booting. Using XOSL with "swap drives" enabled to boot.
Long I know but relevant I think. Thanks.

Yes, the server service is required to share files. The server storage error is usually an indication of mismatched system files. Re-apply your NT Service Pack (run winver) before doing anything else.

Thanks for the quick response. Winver shows Version 4.0 : SP 5. I did run the service pack installation again yesterday but I still have the same error message but it's good to know I was on about needing it.

Well, one down and one to go. A reg hack here: http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q175529 worked with a re-install of the SP5. Apparently the reg hack had to be in place first since I had done the SP5 by itself with no luck and the reg hack by itself was not effective. I no longer have the : "NOT ENOUGH SERVER STORAGE IS AVAILABLE TO PROCESS THIS COMMAND." message. I was able to install RAS also and I can now see my NT machine on the network however one minor/major detail still exists.
When I map the NT drive in the 98 machine it finds it just fine but when asking for the password it recognizes nothing. There is already a full 14 character password indicated which I never created and when I go to "User's" setup it shows the 14 characters ***, etc.,. If I delete it and place my own in and save then re-open the original 14 characters, whatever they are, are back. I don't know where it came from or how to get rid of it, any ideas here?
Thanks again.
