    Re-apply NT service pack required?

Just want to confirm if I need to re-apply all the NT service packs and hot fixes after I install anti-virus program or other non-microsoft programs on the server? I'm not sure whether they do add or modify any of the NT components.

The general rule of thumb is to reapply service packs and hotfixes when adding or removing a Windows service... but

It never hurts to reapply service packs and hotfixes after installing applications such as Virus Scanners, particulary if you suspect system files have been changed.

The best rule of thumb is to err on the side of safety!

If you find yourself reapplying service packs and hotfixes often, you can automate it all into one operation by following the information in the following two web pages:

You said service packs? You only need to apply the latest one - they're cumulative.
