Which version of Word and have any of the SR (Service Release) patches been applied? Does it happen with any document?

If you are on a network, as a troubleshooting step, ask the Administrator to recreate your NT account and/or reduce the hardware acceleration/colors/resolution of your video driver.

Also, what NT Service Pack are you running (check using winmsd)? Try re-applying the NT SP.

You could stop Dr Watson from closing Word by either renaming \winnt\system32\drwtsn32.exe to drwtsn32.ex or altering the registry key

    \LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug

Set the value to 0 to disable, 1 to turn it back on. Alternatively provide more information about the crashing and try to cure that instead.

** I see someone else has answered whilst I was typing... **

I already tried this but it did not resolved the problem, I have now tried SP 6 but also this did not helped. I will try to reduce the
    collors ..(What do you prefere..?)
Is there a way to save my work anyway,
I noticed that my cpu was at 99%(with Word) can I reduce this ?

    Thanks ,
I saw this already somewhere else, but the administrator does not have an intention of closing Dr Watson.
The main problem is saving my work of 33 pages before it is gone ?
I had this problem before but once I could save my work and the other time I could't
Even thew recovery file was damaged.
    I was very very sad.

    thanks,

Your CPU usage was at 99%? What specification machine are you running, and what other applications are running?

When you are using Word, does it crash at a certain point, randomly, or when you've been using it a while? Are you the only person using that machine? Is it networked?

Do you know if anyone else has the same problem on that machine?

It's unlikely, but I once knew someone who had actually run out of disk space because an application crashed and left a huge temporary file behind, then as other programs created their own temporary files, the machine came to a crawl, and then a complete standstill. Check your free disk space.

If this isn't the problem (which is likely) then I'm not sure I can be of any help, sorry.

    Hi,
Yes others have the same problem on the same machine,(maybe it's time to have a new one)
I checked the c:\temp but is empty.
is there an possibiltiy to lower the cpu wich is working on Word, you know..?
it even occures on docs which i yust made,1 page.
Do I need to check the space on C:\
cann it be that the network adapters or cables ar not good and it gives an error to other apps.

    THank you for your time...

Something is very wrong if you're getting 99% CPU usage. How long has the machine been crashing like this? I take it the machine doesn't crash unless you run Word? Long shot, but have you tried a virus scan?

If it's crashing randomly, with no pattern, I can't think what it could be. Maybe reinstalling or repairing (if it's an option with Word97 like it is in Word 2000) is an option?

Well I dond't know exactly when,
but I scanned it already with the latest Virus driver.
i remember it.. it crashed also on Excel..
,after an crash I can see that the Word paps which crashed is still open, the strange thing is that if I start up another Word apps, it does not crashes, the cpu also gives a flux(the one wich chrashed)
When I reinstal the Word is only works for a couple days, then it comes back.
I can sometimes outrun it when it gives the Dr Watson error but it depends on the Task Manager, within the application tab, If I can still Save the Work.

    It's almost time

Delete all files named normal.dot. This is a template that Word opens before it adds the text. This file is prone to corruption and will hog all the CPU time therefore effectively halting the machine and generation Doc Watson. There may be more than one normal.dot file, delete them all. Word will recreate the file upon next launch.
