Windows 98 connection to NT4 Server problem

    Dear All,
I have installed Windows NT4 server (PDC) on a second partition on my HDD (d along with winodws 98 on C:. No problem at all with the dual boot since both c: and D: are FAT.
now I am trying to connect to the PDC using a second computer running winodws 98. I followed the usual way of setting the network client and the network card and had the computer rebooted and prompted with the usual windows loging dialoge box.

When I try to connect tot the PDC, I refused entry with the message saying somthing like " incorect password, or unable to login into the domain controler". I have tried to change domain name on login but did not find the new domain, so Windows 98 is finding the PDC but can not authorise the connection.

I hav tried everything I know and red all the book I have but with no luck. I know it might be a silly problem but is getting on my nurves... Please advise..

Thank you in advance for your help

Have you tried Pinging the server? Login to Windows 98 on the box, and see if you can ping the IP address on the server. That would be a good clue as to whether or not you have connectivity. If you cannot ping, then there is a problem with the network settings on either of the computers as far as subnet, or IP. Simple TCP/IP requires the same subnet across the boards, and close IP's. Use 10.0.0.1 for the pdc and 10.0.0.2 for the Win9x system.

if you CAN ping, then the TCP/IP is correct. See if you get a system or driver failure when you boot the server. that is a clue. Also, make sure that each system can ping themselves.

I'll check back later to see where you are. Maybe I can help more.

    Thanks Kahunaman,
I have tried what you hav suggested but did not help. What I have found id that Windows NT 4 had picked up a strange driver for the RTL8029 NIC which is RTL8029AS which is different than the one used in Windows 98. When I try to connect the tow computers using *****Peer using Netbeui is was find since both NIC had the RTL8029 for win98.

WinNT4 do not have the right drivers and I could locate them on the net.

I will try to find the right drivers no luck until now.

Thanks for the help and please let me know what you think. I will keep you updated.

    Regards
