Utilities for Automation
Is there any utilities out there what would allow me to setup auto connection to my isp to download mail or run my cd-rom at a given time of the day?

You can use AT commands. At the prompt, type 'AT /?' This will give you instructions on how to execute commands at any given time and/or date.
To dial your ISP, use RASDIAL.EXE. If you use the /? switch, you get a list of commands at the command prompt.
To run a CD-ROM at a certain time, just run the autorun program from the prompt. You can find the autorun program by looking in the AUTORUN.INI file in the CD's root directory.
As for downloading mail, you'll have to get an e-mail client that allows you to access it from the command prompt.
Hope This Helps.

One of (if not all) the Outlook clients has a place to check for mail every x minutes.
