    Weird Virus/Trojan/Mouse???

ive already asked in the internet forum but havnt had any luck, am gonna try here to see if anyone knows whats happenin to my computer.....[this is what i left in theinternet forum]"hey, i hope sumone can help me before i smash my computer up. i have a strange virus/trojan/hack tool thats slid its way into my system. ill lay down the symptoms and see if anyone knows what it is. it basically takes control of my mouse , making it fly around everywhere. its not sumone of the internet hacking in ie subseven, because it happens when i am off the net as well, also it only happens if i move my mouse, so if i try going upwards with my mouse , the arrow will go left, if i try right clcik or going left with my mouse, it will go crazy and open folders, documents ect. if i stop moving the mouse it will do nothing and just stay still. this means i have to restart my computer from the tower 20-30 times a day, which is not good at all for the pc, i have scanned my system countless times with norton and about 7 other anti virus trojan removers to no avail. i hope sumone who has experienced this before or anyone who knows what this could be, will reply and be able to help me.
thanx a lot " ........i have already made sure my mouse driver is not conflicted with anything also i have reinstalled the drivers as well....all im left to do now is maybe buy a new mouse. i hope sumone can help. tanx rim

Sounds like you have definitely covered the virus angle.
Seems like the easiest first step would be to borrow a friends mouse and see how it performs on your system.

You could also download Tauscan from http://www.tauscan.com/products/tauscan/
here and run it to check for trojans.

Id go with another mouse first.

Underneath your mouse you can see a "ball" which is inside. Carefully turn the holder to the left and catch the rubber ball in your hand. With a can of spray "air" gently spray to clean inside the mouse. You will probably find all kinds of lint, etc, inside. You may also remove the dust and lint from the rollers, very carefully of course. Hope this works for you. Cheaper than buying a new mouse. Be careful not to lose the ball. When done just drop the ball back insid the bottom of the mouse put the cover back on and close.

Go into Device Manager and click on Mouse and see if your mouse is listed properly. (Also look in Add-Remove to see if it is listed there). If there is more than one listed, delete them all. If there is only one, highlight it and select 'properties',drivers, and then the update drivers button.
Or, even if there is only one, and the above doesn't work,go back to Add-Remove and remove it there. If it isn't in Add-Remove, go back into Device Manager and remove it there.
Reboot and let Win98 find your mouse and install the drivers for it.
Again, it may just be a faulty mouse.

My mouse had similar symptoms some time back. I cleaned it out and it had a big hairball! (My cats love sitting on my desk!) So do follow kingin's advice. Hope that is all it is.

Awwww rimmmer - I did not say you had a cheap nasty mouse.....I said that I had a cheap mouse that went beserk in the same fashion as you are describing and I killed it lol. By all means try the other suggestions first. A good clean might well be all it needs.

Not all mice are created equal. I just suggested the Add-Remove idea because some mice (mouses) programs reside there. Many do not.
See what's listed under Mouse in Device Manager and deleted all under there and reboot.
Try to borrow a mouse from someone else and see it it works on your machine.
