I've been using it for quite a while now without any problems. It finds the spyware and gives you a chance to get rid of it.

Haven't tried the 'checker' yet. I will hold off until the 'AdAware removal by spy programs' becomes more widespread.
Has anyone else had a problem?

THanks for the replies, jmtjet & Buffalo

    jmtjet:
the checker is a new little program that is intended to help to secure the security of the adaware program itself from malicious
    attacks.

    Buffalo:
Actually, yes, but as I understand, nothing much more than a bit of work had been necessary for this little <think this is right> beta-stage program.

I'm getting Info overload on this, as I've come across a few different fixes <?>. out and about. Another is an updated restricted zone .reg file <like nasties.reg?> called IE-SPYAD: Restricted Sites List for Internet Explorer that apparently takes care of the security problem in some way.

I would really like to find out what you people think about these or other preventative strategies for protecting adaware on our systems.

    TIA...

As Ad-Aware as of the latest signature file is immune to attemps by RadLight toremove it, installing this Ad-Aware checker seems a little unneccessary.

Besides that, after what we know about RadLight, who would install this 'rogue' program anyway?

So let's not get carried away.

    Cheers, Tony

    Thanks for the reply, Kleinkramer.

My understanding is that ADAWARE-CHECKER is not about protection from radlite...

Rather, it is intended to protect ADAWARE from the method that radlite used.

I don't think the program can do that on its own just yet.

    I'll just leave it there...

EDIT: LAVASOFT info and moderator's comments

RadLight has sofar been the only program that has targeted Ad-Aware, and as matter of fact Radlight no longer targets Adaware

In my view, to install a program that protects only Ad-Aware from a program that might one day want to attack it again, is a little unneccessary.

I also believe it has been superseded by this one: http://wilderssecurity.com/filechecker.html

Filechecker will allow you all files you'd like to be protected (your antivirus software, your firewall, Ad-Aware, etcetera), and this sounds much more promising.

    Cheers, Tony

    Thanks again, Kleinkramer.

I don't know that radlite is the only one that has targeted adaware, but I understand it is the first to succeed.

ADAWARE-CHECKER is certainly not <just?> about protecting from radlite...

I noticed that at least ADAWARE-CHECKER is endorsed by LAVASOFT...
and both ADAWARE-CHECKER & FILECHECKER are both endorsed by WILDERS.ORG.

Both programs are only days old.

Those of you who might have tried either or both, please post back.

    TIA...

    A very interesting post....

I looked up all the links a was amazed at what I found. I was totally unaware that there have been sucessful attacks on AdAware and ZoneAlarm. I knew that it would be only a matter of time before spyware/firewalls/antivirus software was breeched but the info posted at wilders.org has really opened my eyes.

    Definitely worth a read!!

    You're welcome, Buffalo...

I'm sorry I do not know whether or not any programs I am familiar with could meet your needs...

I suggest you post your question for fielding in a fresh thread - the subject line will likely attract the kind of response that will be helpful to you.
