Need suggestions for internet connection hanging.
Hi: Just got new computer. On Dial-up. Connecting @ 50666bps. After couple days Internet connection started hanging and icon wont light up to open page, continue download, etc.
After about 20 seconds Zone Alarm turns green and internet icons turn green and everything is ok. After a random amount of time (1 min. to 3 mins) internet stops again. Here at this site I may right click a post to view in new window and nothing until 30 to 60 seconds. Then page loads fine.
This it totally random but very annoying.
I searched forums but found nothing related. (found computer hang problems but not internet)
Dont have connect to LAN checked and modem setup looks fine. And have never had this high of connect speed. Old system was 48000.
Please, Anything to try? Any link you feel may help? Really, Really appreciate some info.
carson.

It sounds like it's your ISP... if it took a couple of days to surface, then it probably isn't the computer that's causing it. Contact them and see if they have been having any trouble lately.
You may also want to try shutting ZA down for awhile... sometimes it can cause problems with connections.

My neighbor has not noticed the problem with our ISP but it is worth a call.
Also I did wonder about Zonealarm. Maybe a fresh install as I did this one from a saved CDRW when transfering files from old system.
Thanks for the advise Dr.Gibbs.

Suggestions welcome.

Ok, I did a driver update and still have the internet connection hanging. Tried without ZoneAlarm and still same problem.
Getting worse. Could this possible be a bad modem?
Thanks for any help, advise.

Might try adding this string in modem properties: S11=50 Can sometimes help with disconnects or slowing...
For other strings for your particular modem you might look HERE
Well,,bummer,,i see they're charging for that site now.

Thanks ridgerunr for the links. Will check them out.
I should have mention I am using a USR OEM 2977, So far the best compatible with my dialupISP.
Got this one because my neighbor tried several and found this one to be the best by far.
