    dead battery

    My daughter has an old pentium-s that has set on a shelf for a good while and the battery went dead. I put in a new battery but now the Primary Master and Primary Slave is not registering any thing. Is there any way to find how to add that info? Its only a 75 mgh with a 2 gig hard drive.

    When the motherboard battery dies, all the BIOS settings are "lost", meaning they revert back to whatever the factory defaults are.

    When you first turn on the computer, look for a line of text that says something like;

    "Press F1 for setup"

    Note it might say something like Press, DEL, or F10, or whatever. This will take you to the BIOS setup, where you can configure settings for hard drives, COM and printer ports, etc. You should be able to set the drives to "AUTO", meaning the computer will detect what brand/capacity the drives are automatically.

    If this is a brand name computer, a logo screen might cover up the normal POST information, and you won't know what to press to enter the BIOS. Post back with the computer's brand and model, and someone can tell you what the key is.
