IE update problem
IE 5.0 on W98 PC. When I try to update IE (to 5.5, 6.0, whatever) I get this text box:
"A previous installation has pending work requiring a reboot. You need to restart your computer to complete that installation before running Internet Exploder Setup. Setup will now close."
Obviously rebooted, or I wouldn't be posting
Anyone know what file(s) to delete?

I would guess a bad install from the cd.

Try this:
Shut down Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.
Now go to Start/Find, and type wininit.ini
When found, highlight the file and hit 'delete'
Warning: don't touch Wininit.exe
Go to C:\Windows\Temp, and empty the folder completely.
Now go to C:\Program Files\Uninstall Information, and empty that one as well.
It may be a hidden folder, so make sure 'show all files' is checked (Folder Options\View).
Now shut down as many running programs as possible, especially your antivirus, and try installing IE again.
Good luck, Tony
