msconfig startup tab
My msconfig start up tab contains quite a few lines for programs that have either been unistalled or that I just no longer wish to appear there. How do I remove the unwanted lines? Will tweakui do this?
Thanks.

Here is the location, do you know how to run regedit and delete irrelevant data/entries?.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

I can drill down to the described key, but then what do I do?
Can this be accomplished with tweakui? I don't need any more programs in my computer like Start Up Cop.
Thanks.

These are the different areas a program may be set to run at Windows startup:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce
What you'll be looking for is one or more of the above entries that's followed by a dash, such as:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce-
The ones followed by a dash are those that have been disabled using MSCONFIG.

Thanks everybody. If I can screw my courage up, I'll give it a shot.

And some programs represented in Msconfig/Startup start up from your Startup Folder (wow, that's a lot of 'startups' ), and not from the Registry, so you should look there as well.

Last night I hacked the registry and deleted most of the unwanted lines. There are, however, two that do not exist in any of the registry locations referenced by cliffh. Nor are they in the start/programs/startup. But, it's no big deal.
Thanks everyone. Especially cliffh.

Thanks amthml. I am at work now. I will check it out tonight and post back tomorrow morning.
I am not really concerned with these last two lines. If they are not there, I can live with it the way it is.
PS I always post back. Thats the whole purpose of this board. I hate it when I help someone and they never post back.

Click on start, run and enter: regedit
Click on edit, and find and enter: run-
Right click and select delete.

Some of them are in RunServices- so you should look for that one as well.
And yet others could be in Start/Programs/Disabled Startup Items

OK. Lets close this thread.
The lines that I wanted to delete and which did not show up in the registry were found in Start/Programs/Disabled Startup Items. They were promptly deletd.
Thanks for everyones help. I couldn't have done it without you.
