connected two parties....
I have some people who want to be involved in meetings together in different cities. One is alone hooked up to cable. The other is a group of 6-10 in a room 15 by 30 feet hooked up via dial up (max connection 45 k according to the blinking connection in the corner) no chance to upgrade it any higher for at least 4 years. Yes the boonies. The lone individual wants to mostly listen in, take minutes of the meeting so needs to hear all the different voice. They don't want to use phone, such as PolyPhone due to costs. Do any of you illustrious, knowledgeable folk have any ideas..the cheaper the better.

Hi coops:
I'd just hate to see this one slide off the page without an answer. Would Netmeeting work do you think?

If it's just audio it could be done with netmeeting relatively well.
Overall I don't think you could get the reliablity to the professional level with anything less than cable/dsl. You'd probably be doing this during peak usage times and getting up in the middle of the meeting to reconnect a pal isn't very cool.
Since it's just a 2-location long-distance call, you should be able to have an hour long meeting for about three bucks. Just put everyone in your room on speakerphone. 1010-811, baby. Mann, it's really not like me to recommend such a non-technical solution! Good luck.

we are going to give netmeeting a shot. Corona - long distance where we are (middle of Manitoba) is a bit more expensive and the meetings are anywhere from 4 to 6 hours give or take. Where are you in Wisconsin? I was in Kaukauna this past July

I, too, am quite interested in hearing how netmeeting works in a situation like this.
6 hour meetings!?! Yuck.
Satellite might be a broadband option for manitoba. There's actually a satellite provider based in Manitoba, so you might have a chance. It can't hurt to forward that link to your IT guy (or maybe you are the IT guy...) They even do voice over IP, so you might not need netmeeting.
I live north of Milwaukee in a city called West Bend. It seems like there are quite a few active posters from Wisconsin!

Corona,
there are satellite providers here but the folks I'm working for are a smallish school division that will be amalgamated in 6 -10 months so don't want to spend 1500 odd dollars for the dish and 100-150 per month usage fee. The link you sent is in the 5 grand range for really isolated places. DirecPC has a new two way satellite which does look really interesting. Will try the netmeeting in the next couple of weeks...

How about a cell phone with free long distance? The group have a regular speaker phone and have the loner call on the cell phone. Around here cells run about a penny with the right plan.
Other than that, on a low budget 2 cans and a hellova shoe string sound good
