drivers??
I have a p2 -333- 128 megs ram, cirrus clm data fax modem, mat****a cd-rom, with a PC Chips M726 motherboard.I am going to have to reformat and was wondering how much trouble finding and loading the chipset drivers(has on board sound) or does 98se have the generic drivers.I tested with a 98boot disk and it loads the cd-rom but before I wiped clean would like to make sure of driver support. This system is running now so could I somehow copy these drivers to floppys or would this be to much trouble?thanks, tdark

Try the manufacturer's website and look for the most recent drivers there. Otherwise if you really want to go digging you could find the names of the files used by looking in device manager and then copying them to a floppy, I think. Be advised I have never tried this method and it probably won't work! But it might be possible....

There is a method to copy all the drivers you will need to reinstall.
I have developed it myself, and it does work.
Nevertheless, I am sort of tired of suggesting it, as nobody has shown any interest on trying it so far.
If you are interested, you may start from here.

Our fellow Dr. mentions a post. That post references another which references another. In the interest of streamlining, this is (what appears to be) his original post.
Has anyone other than Ricardo Dávidow ever used this method sucessfully? I'd be reluctant to experiment with my PC.

Comments like yours, dear fellow Dr. Corona, are the ones that made me feel tired of suggesting this method.
It seems that original ideas are not worth considering.
I appreciate your streamlining effort, but I believe that the whole chain of posts should be read in order to find some information I have added on subsequent posts, and some enlightening comments from other users.
In particular, there is
this link , which provides information about .inf files.
As for your reluctance to experiment, all I can say is that's the only way to discover new approaches. In any case, there is nothing to lose. If this does not work, you will have to get the drivers from somewhere else,
which is what you should had to do anyway.
Indeed, it would have been easier for the one interested if I have gone through the work of explaining everything all over again in a single post, but considering the lack of interest on my earlier posts I have noticed, I thought it was not worth.

Thanks Ricardo for your advice
I have often wrestled with this
You have a system that must have a clean install
All the device drivers are OK, that’s not the problem.
You do a clean install only to find that most of the manufacturer’s of your devices
Are belly up, and their sites have long gone
I have done numerous posts on the Microsoft newsgroups about this problem, they cant see the point, why they don’t have some automated method of first saving these valuable hard to get drivers
And simply re-importing them
Its takes 35 minutes to reinstall windows and sometimes 2 weeks finding correct drivers
I make a point of saving my drivers but most people throw them out with the wash.
Or the box that came with the computer is long gone
I have the most success finding legacy drivers here:
