    Trouble Installing Shockwave

    I have the latest version of the shockwave player installed on Netscape.

    I tried to install it on IE. It told me when I was installing it that it would install on Netscape and IE both. Yet when I go to Shockwave.com on IE it keeps telling me that I need to download it from there.

    I contacted their tech people and they didn't respond.

    Does anyone here know how to get around this?
    I tried copy and paste from Netscape to IE and clicked on the exe program in IE.

    It still wouldn't work.

    Dr Seven,

    I don't know if this will help, but I recently had a similar problem with Flash5.0

    I checked the plug-ins under IE and I have
    nothing called swf.ocx

    So I don't think that is the problem.

    Thanks for trying though.

    Dr Seven,

    You might be able to find some answers here: http://www.macromedia.com/support/shockwave/

    Hope this helps,

    I went to the link that you provided. On the page where it tells what a person is supposed to do if they are having trouble downloading they talk about downloading an exe file.

    They also say that if that doesn't work there is a small file below that that a person can try.

    Unfortunately I didn't see any such exe file actually listed there.

    All I saw was the small download file listed below the text. And a link to go to shockwave.com

    So I tried downloading the small file figuring I might be misunderstanding.

    Still nothing. When I tried to go to shockwave.com it was still telling me that I needed the shockwave player to enter the site.

    Maybe I missed something on that troubleshooting page? Maybe you can explain it more clearly for me? If not, I guess I will have to wait and see if their techs will respond.

    I went back and tried to install it again. I found the acitvexinstaller on my hard drive.

    I double clicked it. A box opened up. Instead of an installation program beginning, it told me to please insert a disk and that it couldn't find the ocx file.

    Does this tell you anything?

    Hi,
    You've probably already read these, but I copied them from the support link:

    6 Finally, reinstall the Shockwave and Flash Players

    Note: If you are using Internet Explorer for Windows and no dialog boxes appear when attempting to download the Shockwave and Flash Players, you may be experiencing an issue with Microsoft's Install On Demand feature. If you had previously indicated to Internet Explorer that you did not wish to install the Macromedia Web Players, Install On Demand will prevent their subsequent installation. You can undo this setting with the executables below:

    For Shockwave Player

    For all other players and uninstallers
    ~~~~~~~
    Why doesn't Shockwave Player download properly with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5?
    When Internet Explorer 5 on Windows encounters a request from a page to download a new ActiveX control, an option is provided to allow the user to prevent the specified ActiveX control from ever installing in the future. If this option is selected when you encounter Shockwave or Flash Player ActiveX controls, future installation attempts of these controls will fail.
    If you wish to install the Shockwave and Flash Player ActiveX controls and are unable to due to this feature, download and run the executable below to rectify this problem. After running the executable, proceed to the Shockwave and Flash Players Download Center to install Shockwave and Flash Player.
    If you are unable to install the Shockwave ActiveX control due to IE5's Install on Demand feature discussed above, select the download link below.
    Download
    (248KB)
    ~~~~~~~~
    and
    I'm trying to download Shockwave Player, but I can't. How can I get Shockwave Player?

    An earlier version of Shockwave Player is pre-installed with most popular Internet browsers. Sometimes, damage to the Shockwave Player that's already installed can prevent your upgrading to the latest Shockwave Player. This can usually be fixed by uninstalling, then reinstalling, Shockwave Player.

    You can download an uninstaller for Macintosh and Windows:

    Shockwave Player uninstaller (Macintosh)
    Shockwave Player uninstaller (Windows)

    After you've uninstalled Shockwave Player, reinstall it.

    Note: In some cases, it's actually the browser which is preventing the successful installation of Shockwave Player. In such instances, simply reinstalling Shockwave Player may not work. Reinstalling or updating the browser, then installing Shockwave Player should take care of this.

    When you go to shockwave.com and it tells you you need to d/l Shockwave to enter, are you able to download it there? Otherwise, one of the above things might help.

    BTW, I didn't see any reference to an install on both Netscape and IE and it seems like that's what you need information about.

    Good luck.

    Sincerely, Nancee

    Nancee,

    Thanks for trying to help, but this didn't really solve the problem.

    When I go to shockwave.com on IE I am unable to download it from there.

    It works just fine on Netscape.
