cannot access windows update...go to site...M$ asks to run update package, i allow, then computer freezes..using broadband..shut down zone alarm & norton av while attempting..internet option security setting is at low also..help!! thanks.

Wojo629, ther is an alternate "corporate" site for updates without all the rigamarole that causes problems. The down side of using it is that your system is not checked for compatibility or installed updates and no chronological record of the update is stored.

That site appears to have SE stuff as well as FE. There is another troublehsooting link here with a different corporate site (doesn't look like it's for the common folk though).
