Boot freezes in Win 98
For some mysterious reason, when I boot my computer & as it goes into Win 98, it sometimes (about half the time) freezes when it gets to a dialog box "Restoring Network Connections". A green line runs across the screen about 1/4 down from the top of the screen and it freezes and the dialog box remains on the screen. You cannot go any further, nothing works except to manually turn off the computer, reboot & hope it doesn't happen the next time - sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't! I have run diagnostics such as Norton Utilities and pcPitstop , etc. They don't seem to detect the problem or offer a fix, etc.
Help!

c,
it sounds like a resource confict with your nic and some other critical device,
you could try boot logging the system and see where it stops,
or you could try to move the nic one slot down on the motherboard, that may allow the device in conflict to have it's resources assigned earlier than the nic.
there could be multiple solutions to this problem. more info would help.
ie: nic model and type
bootlog text
don't know if it will help or not, but i've fixed conflict problems using this method before.

it's just a jump to the left....
