Floppy Seek after Ghosting

Hi, Folks:

I just finished working on a friend's pc (partitioning and installing Ghost7) and I
have one irritating little problem.

After the desktop has loaded I have something trying to access the floppy drive.

I've tried putting a disk in the drive before the desktop is fully loaded - no joy.

I've rebooted with the Ghost disk, cancelled out and instead of CADing at the A:\Ghost prompt, I changed it to A:\ - no joy.

In the BIOS I found 'Floppy Drive Seek' enabled so I disabled it and - no joy.

I just can't find a reference to this activity anywhere and hopefully somebody can steer me in the right direction.

(One more little question: In the BIOS I found 'PME Event WakeUp' enabled and I am just curious as to what that might be.)

The AV isn't on Auto and that item is unchecked in Performance>File System>Floppy. I emptied the Windows Temp folder, rebooted and still I get this floppy seek. BTW, its rather an aggressive floppy search that goes on for about 10 seconds ... not just a little beep and then moves on.

Oddly this behaviour starts as soon as the desktop is fully loaded ... and odd time for something to be searching for the floppy.

Its InoculateIT but I disabled it completely b/4 partitioning ... and haven't enabled it again. There's nothing AV related in the BIOS and the TIF Folder is empty (as is index.dat and History.)

I even tried scanreg /fix -- no joy. Then I un-installed and re-installed the Floppy drive -- still no joy.

There was nothing in CAD that shouldn' be there.

I'm not so sure this is AV related as the problem started directly after using the Ghost bootdisk.

Its all so strange.

Thanks for the link.

I went thru their suggestions but unfortunately didn't find a resolution.

Virus scan came up clean, nothing in the Registry > Run that's out of line, no Documents Menu, no 'LocalLoadHigh=1' in MSDOS.sys, nothing that I could see in HCR/CLSID that pointed to ocx or dll referenced to the floppy.

There doesn't seem to be anything anywhere that's calling on the floppy drive.

BINGO!

Problem solved.

I was working my way thru the steps in the link Falcon was kind enough to post and found in the list of possible causes:

*File compression/decompression (zip/unzip) utilities:
Niko Mak Computing Winzip

There was a single stray pointer to A: drive
in the Registry entries for Nico Mak. I just
deleted it, rebooted and ...

a relationship between your problem and Ghost. There is some very

The 'radified' link is the one that gave me the courage to use Ghost in the first place ... excellent article!

I was sooooo sure it was Ghost that caught me up. What's particularly odd is that I don't recall zipping anything to or from A: drive.
