Invisible Desktop Caddy
What ho one and all,
Desktop computer running W7. I have three internal HDD and an ICY Box HDD desktop caddy plugged into the motherboard.
Until a few days ago, all was fine, switch to any HDD and it was readable.
Don't know what I have done but recently, on boot, I do get a message relating to a drive not being connected and as the caddy is not on, I just click cancel and all is good to go. But since the caddy is not powered, why would this be causing the message?
Anyway, wanted to check and add to the backup folders on an external HDD and although the caddy is powered, noting is visible. I have unplugged both power and USB, waited, replugged and nothing.
However, checking on My Computer, I have a Network Location 1 with an icon showing pc, which means nothing to me. Clicking gives a 'computer not responding' message. There are no flags in Device Manager and when looking at Drive Management, the caddy is not listed.
I have tried to find the ICY Box driver on the ICY Box site, but there is nothing.
As I say, a couple of weeks ago, all was working; how can I get it to work again?

Further information:
Everything I try suggest something about a network. I don't understand!!! It is a desktop computer, three internal HDD, one connected USB thumb-drive and the desktop HDD caddy plugged into the SATA card port on the rear. Although connected to the internet, it is not connected to any other computer; so what does Network mean?
I have played around with Network option in control panel but still nothing. These are the two relevant screenshots.

Obviously, one is My Computer and the Network (1) shows pc. Clicking pc and I get the non-responding message. Within Setting, I have tried to change network 2 to 1 but have no idea what I am doing. Have checked the BIOS and there is nothing untoward. I cannot believe it is the cables as two weeks ago, everything was fine; it is not the HDD as none of my external HDD are registering.
The caddy is connected to a SATA card inside the computer. I have also tried by connecting the caddy to an external USB front socket, and still nothing.

Have you tried connecting the external drive to a different computer?
Have you checked Device Manager to see if there are any errors showing?

Thanks for your suggestions. have not tried with another computer and did check Device Manager and no errors showing.
It's like it is not even plugged into the computer; makes no sense. Tried the second external SATA socket and with a different cable, plugging into a front USB. It is not as if there is an electronic error showing, the drive is just not registering anywhere.
But what is pc in Network Drives? And if I click, the hourglass shows a for around one minute before offering to end the program.
May decide to take the 'hammer' route and restore from the lat image when I believe everything was working fine.

It sounds like you somehow added a network location called "pc". You could just delete it, if you're sure you're not using it.

In the first picture, the Network(1) is the count of network connections, not a network number.
In the second picture, the Network 2 is the network name. Network is the default name. If you changed modems or routers, that might be why it changed to Network 2. I don't think that's the problem, but you can change the Network Name if you want.

Do you have the model number of the ICY Box HDD desktop caddy? It sounds like it has eSATA and USB?
