Need Advice Troubleshooting an Unstable Desktop Power Issue

    Hello everyone,

I am experiencing a strange issue with my desktop computer and would appreciate some guidance. The system randomly shuts down during normal use, especially when running multiple applications or performing light gaming.

I have checked the temperatures, cleaned dust from the case, and verified that the cables are connected properly. While researching possible causes, I started wondering whether the HP power supply could be failing or delivering inconsistent power.

Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms before? What tests or diagnostic steps would you recommend to confirm whether the power supply is the problem or if another component may be responsible?

    Thanks in advance.

Could be bad ram, or bad cpu. I would run tests on them first.

Have a look in event viewer to see if there are any alerts that coincide with the shutdowns.

It there are no Event Viewer items listed, and I am betting that there will not be, the power supply could be an issue. I have had that happen. If you have a spare power supply to test with, that would be a way to check. The power supply could also have dust buildup of fan issues.

    How old is the computer?

One other item to look at would be the components on the motherboard. Check the capacitors to make sure that they are not leaking or bulging. Look for any potential burned areas or other damage. Also check for foreign objects (paper clips, etc.) that may have gotten in there.
