Start Menu Shortcut

What ho one and all,

With age, I cannot recall how to do something pretty fundamental!!! running W7 and cannot get a shortcut to a newly installed program, onto the Start menu

Googling suggests, right click and drag the s/c to the start button, but all I see is a black circle with a diagonal bar, cannot do it.

Seem to recall there was a start menu option, where I could select the relevant *.exe file, then drag it to any section of the menu, but where is it.

Right click the .exe file, choose "pin to start menu".

Thank you, that is working. it was not working yesterday, hence the post. I suspect that the turn it off / turn it on reset the drag/drop function to the start menu.
