Andriod phone: WiFi keeps going back to "Guest" SSID - No SIM chip installed

Issue: My android phone which does not have any SIM keeps going from the regular WiFi SSID to "Guest" SSID. If I reboot router and modem it will stay on regular SSID for a few days then it happens again; repeat, reboot, it's good for a couple of days.

I am using an old Android phone for my games only basically. It has no SSID.
One thing I want to mention is that our cable company who provides the Internet recently changed; bought out by another company.

I have made no changes on my router settings since this started to happen, no changes to my phone that does this. If I sit next to the router and modem and reboot both the phone will stay on the regular WiFi SSID, couple days later when I turn on the phone it attempts to connect to the regular SSID, keeps showing it is connecting then it says No Internet, bounces back to try and reconnect a few times and then finally settles down on the guest SSID.

I believe this started to happen when the cable companies switched over service. One good thing was that my internet speed went from 50Mbs to 100Mbs for the same price. I have had no issues with my phone that I used on a regular bases that does have a SIM and 2 other people in the house have had no problems and our TVs etc no problems.

Any ideas? A place to start maybe.

    Thanks

    Possible options:

Check the settings and set the Guest SSID so that it never tries to connect to that.

I have seen some reports that assigning a static IP address to the phone might fix this also.

JDC2000 - so sorry for the delay in my response.
Had oral surgery and was out of commission for a few days.
Just now starting to feel better.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I checked into what you proposed and still no good.
Anytime I try and connect to the regular SSID it bounces several times from connected to saved to obtaining IP address and then finally settles down and connects to the Guest SSID all within about 20 seconds or so.

The other thing I noticed is that it is not detecting the 5GHZ when it scans for networks where as my other Moto sitting right next to it does detect the 5GHZ. Even if I attempt to set up the 5 manually it does not find it and is no longer in the list of SSIDs

Annnnddddd.... to top it off, the darn thing won't even connect to the Guest SSID anymore; keeps bouncing out like the regular one did.

Past two days since I rebooted themodem and router this has been happening; attempting connection to regular SSID, then failure after a few times and then settling down to Guest.

I just rebooted the modem and router again, a few minutes ago and the phone is sitting on the regular SSID; made no changes. Maybe I will just deal with it the way it is. I only use that phone for games and I can play the games on the guest SSID just as well.

    Thanks for trying.
    Much appreciate as usual JDC

That is sounding more like a hardware issue with the phone, rather than anything else.

You are probably correct. Since yesterday when I wrote my reply the phone has stayed on the regular SSID since the modem/router reboot I did while posting. And I have turned my phone off and on a few times since then and still no problem. But give it time....and it will happen again.

Since I only use this phone for games and don't have a SIM in it I am not going to worry about it.

    Thanks again for your time.

    UPDATE: (No need for reply)

Since I rebooted the router and modem on Nov 11th no issues (today is Nov 16th.)
Longest it has gone since issue started.
I power the phone on and off several times a day.

Maybe it had to do with the new cable company that took over our Internet service around the time this started happening or it may be a hardware issue as JDC2000 suggested.
