MSI i7 laotop keys not working

The suspicious part is that every other key on one row is not working. That suggests a wire has gone bad at the hinge between the screen and the keys. Or, is it something that could result from a corrupt keyboard driver?

    Thanks - rev

Do you know any of the history? Was the lappy fine last time it booted?

every other key on one row -> is that all that isn't working?

A keyboard driver is unlikely to be the cause. Also, the keyboard wiring generally does not pass through the hinge for the screen on a laptop. It is possibly that there is a broken trace or wire that is affecting the keyboard.

If you connect an external USB keyboard, do all of the keys work?

Post the exact make and model of the MSI laptop so we can locate more accurate data and replacement information.

jdc2000 is correct, the Keyboard wires would not run up to the screen.
It should be connected to the Motherboard which is below the keyboard.
There's normally a Ribbon Cable that connects the Keyboard to the motherboard.

Hopefully you can find something in the Links jdc2000 supplied.
Replacing that Keyboard could be a real PITA.

Been a long time since I really had to tear down a Laptop.
The keyboards used to be much easier to replace quite a few years ago.
