The old HDMI cable did not look damaged. I guess it could be a faulty cable maybe. I had the cable in a plastic box with a bunch of other cables that I never used. I don't know how long I had it. It still had those plastic pieces on the ends when I took it out of the box. No sun or pet chewing on it. My computer desk doesn't have any drawers either.
