[RESOLVED] windows 10 keeps giving me (the same?) update
for a week or two, i've been getting the "we've got an update for you" notice.
it gives me the choice to restart now, another time or ok.
i've been letting it restart automatically.
however, i'm getting this multiple times per day. i assume the update is not completing.
any ideas?
thanks in advance,
terry

Here is a link that shows how to view the update status:

Once you know which one failed, you should be able to download that one manually.

thanks, jdc.
i show 2 updates both stating "requires a restart to finish installing":
2018-03 cumulative update for windows 10 version 1709 KB 4088776
2018-03 security update for adobe flash player KB 4088785
i'm assuming the cumulative one won't install because the adobe update never correctly installed.
where do i go from here?

You can download and install them manually instead. Make sure to choose the file version that matches Win10 version you have.

thanks, midknyte.
manually installing those updates failed. both told me that the updates were already installed.

You could try uninstalling the updates using the command line, then, if that works, re-installing them manually:
Code:
wusa /uninstall /kb:4088776
wusa /uninstall /kb:4088785

i tried uninstalling and reinstalling. now i have three updates "requires a restart to finish installing". however, restarting (even a cold reboot) doesn't change anything.
here my installed update history:

When you use the command to uninstall an update, then reboot, does the update still show as "restart needed"?

Excellent. With no issues showing, you can now try (one at a time) to use the manual installation links from Midknyte to install the problem updates. Reboot after each one, if they are successful. If they still fail, remove them again (and reboot).

You could try deleting the Windows Updates folder option. No guarantees though. Most users end up re-installing the latest version of Windows 10 and then re-installing all of their programs and restoring their data to fix this issue.

*sadness*
i tried removing the software distribution folder, etc then using midknyte's links. same result.
then tried the same but letting windows dl and install. same result.
i also used the 'help' link in the installed history page. gave me another option but same result. it did offer to connect me with a ms tech but there were 63 ahead of me! i may try that when i have time before doing a complete new windows install.
thanks all.

i took this long weekend to finally reinstall 10. i see there was a "reset" option in addition to the "reinstall". i took the reset.
everything went smoothly (except for some software whose settings i forgot to backup *sad face*).
the two updates that had refused to install previously had no problem this time and the current update (1803) installed easily. so, i'm back in business.
again, thanks jdc & midknyte.
