IE 5 x service packs
You may recall from an earlier post that I'm reluctantly changing from Netscape to IE as my preferred (that's a stretch) browser.
I have 5.01 on one machine and 5.5 on another. I see that both have large service packs available.
2 questions: 1st are they necessary (do they really fix anything?) and more important it seems as they all have the same problem, you must use "Active Setup".
Is their anywhere I can get the complete service packs with an installer? I'd prefer using my T-1 connection at work to download these files than my 56 K at home where I want to install them.
Thanks fellow Doctors

welshjim, thanks. At first I was going to discount it since it only has the installer listed but after you get the usual MS setup file (5k) and launch it, it does actually give you a choice of downloading just the programs you need / want with the auto install or downloading and saving the full IE5.5 SP2.
I guess there's just no way to get the service packs by themselves, oh well not the end of the world.
Now if the full download opens and allows me to only install the upgrades and codecs, etc., that I want, I'm in hog heaven. Well, as much as you can be with IE. I can burn it at work and use it on other machines with 56k dial up. It's a BIG file.
Thanks, all.
ps: johnking, your site has a full download of 5.5 and 5.1 sp1 but sp2 was what I was after, again thanks.

griffinspc--The security updates are some of the most important. You can get a list of these (not a full SP update) from http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...ty/current.asp

Great link Train. I did indeed try the exact sequence he describes and got to the "failed" warning and assumed I couldn't finish.
Thanks and I hope the info will help others who'd rather not allow the automatic install with no way back. I hate the whole concept of allowing 30 MB's of crap to be installed without the ability to pick what I want or have it ready to go again if the first install fails.
Course that never happens with software, right!!
