[RESOLVED] WebGL
What ho one and all,
The Vendee Globe 2016 (single handed, round wourld yacht race) started this morning.
I would like to regularly look at the race tracker but when I hti the relevant button on the web site (http://www.vendeeglobe.org/en/) I receive a message telling me that I need a browser that uses WebGL. Try installing Firefox.
I only use Firefox (38.5 ESR) and know nothing about WebGL.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Rex

If I knew where to find that relevant button, I would test it with 45.4.0 ESR.
EDIT Seems Firefox has supported it since 4

Do you have javascript disabled?

What I have is Java Development Toolkit (Known to be vulnerable / use with caution) and Java (TN) Platform SE 7 U55 (known to be vulnerable and should be updated.)
For both these only the 'Ask to Activate' and 'Never Activate' options available, but I don't recall ever being Asked. I have looked into the upgrading, but am wary of things that tell me I have to uninstall first, etc, etc because at the moment FF is running well and stable, and my feeling is, any change will cause a major FUBAR. I do have the profile saved, so maybe that is the way to go.
On the other hand, I have read in the past, that Java is not necessary, or am I missing something? This is from one web site "If you need Java in a browser, you will know so right away. If you do not need Java (and are unaware if you are even using it or not), chances are good that you will never miss it or bump into it again. The chances of a casual user tripping over a website that would truly need Java to function in 2015 is rare at best nowadays."

Generally, java is not needed, but once in a while we hit a site where it is needed.
Mine does not ask on that site either.
Checked the site with the Web Developer under Tools in the menu and found it is a 6+ MB site that takes about 47 seconds to load.
Checked it with validator and css validator and it caan stand a bunch of work in the coding.

Since both Java entries where listed as Ask to Activate' and I have never knowingly been asked, I have uninstalled both. However, I have also upgraded to Java Development Toolkit 8 and that also says, 'Ask to Activate.' Since I don't do any 'development' i guess I could remove it.
But even with the upgrade, http://tracking2016.vendeeglobe.org/hp5ip0/ fails to load, even after around 2 minutes, zilch. However, I was having a look at the web site of the only English competitor, Alex Thompson, and there, I have found http://alexthomsonracing.geovoile.co.../2016/tracker/, which is giving me the tracking that I was hoping for.
So all is good!
Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes, I would uninstall it.
A much better website. I agree. Like the tracker.
