    Windows 7 hibernate stopped working

Been using this Laptop over 3 years (Acer V3 731). In all that time Hibernate has worked. A couple of days ago it just stopped working. I've added no softeare or peripherals. I've googled for hours and tried all suggestions but nothing has worked. All my settings are set to Hibernate and Hibernate appears in the shutdown menu. Looked through the BIOS but see nothing that should affect this problem. Don't know what to do next. If it worked for over three years it should be able to work again. Any help will be very appreciated--I really miss it.

How much free disk space do you have? You'd need space for the hiberfil.sys file.

You could also try disabling and re-enabling Hibernation to reset the hiberfil.sys file.
From an elevated command prompt, run the following:

powercfg -h off (this should delete the hiberfil.sys file)
    powercfg -h on

System Restore to a time before the problem started.

Midknnite--I was aware of the free space requirement. I have 366GB free on a 500GB drive. This stays pretty constant as I don't save music or videos or any large files. I tried the disabling/reenabling and no change. I ran into the link when I was Googling but did it again. I love what I have now but it doesn't seem right---I close the lid, open it up and whack the power button and within a few seconds I back to where I should be?! It used to say Restoring Windows and take about 30 seconds. Have you ever heard of this? I guess I'll keep an eye on it for a while. If there's nothing wrong here it would be beautiful.

    1. powercfg -h off (this should delete the hiberfil.sys file)

reboot { or do a full shutdown, wait a minute, restart. then

    2. powercfg -h on

Thinking the hiberfil may be corrupted.

Like Train mentioned, try doing a reboot after each of the powercfg steps.

Midknyte--as you and Train mentioned I used the powercfg thing and I'm now working as I describe in Post#4. Can't understand it but it's GREAT! I push the power button and everything is there immediately. It;s almost like it's in Sleep but I checked the settings and nothing is set to Sleep, just Hibernate. Must have tried it over 20 times by now and it keeps working. Would love to hear any comment you haave on this. In any case your advise got me to this point and I thank you VERY MUCH!!!!

Like Train and I mentioned, the hiberfil.sys file probably got corrupted. That's why I said to reset it (delete and recreate).

Re-read my last post. It's still working like that. Never heard of such a thing and it don't seem it should be happening but it is. I immediately made a Restore Point and an Image backup. Sure would like to hear your comments on this.

    THANX AGAIN !!!
