    Computer upgrade

    What ho one and all,

I have a old Dell Dimension 9200 that was designed to only take up to 4gb of RAM. I am running 32 bit XP Pro with 3gb and plenty of HDD space.

I am frequently thinking of up-grading but frankly, cannot really justify the expense of new computer, OS, programs, etc. However, I have received a sales e-mail with the following: Toshiba 1 TB Internal Hybrid Drive - 2.5" - H200 - SATA 6Gb/s - 5,400 rpm (http://www.saverstore.com/link/46395...ted-Time-Offer) and am very tempted.

A few questions: Would it make a significant difference to booting and program loading? Would it actually work with my computer which only has SATA2?

    Thanks

    Toodle pip

You mentioned you have plenty of hdd space????

The 5,400 rpm drive is as slow as they get.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

A 5,400 rpm drive would be fine for backup use, but as a boot drive (even being a hybrid drive), it would be slow. If it costs more than about $55-$60 on sale for 1 TB, it would also be too pricey. It should work on a SATA2 interface though.

Bought one and used it for 2 months.
Replaced it. Used 240 GB SSD to replace it.

I swear the old HDD was faster than the hybrid, but the hybrid works just fine in USB 3.0 enclosure.
