Chrome can't connect to my wireless network

I have a laptop (Windows 7) on which I use both Firefox and Chrome. For whatever reason, Firefox will not stream ESPN3 programming, but Chrome always has. Today, however, when I tried to connect to the internet with Chrome, I get the message, "Unable to Connect to Proxy Server, " and ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED. I have tried everything I can think of to no avail. Firefox connects just fine, but, as I said, won't actually play the video. any ideas?

Even better, any ideas on why Firefox won't stream the videos? All my plug-ins are up to date and it is maddening that I have to use a different browser to stream videos, especailly given the issue I'm having with Chrome.

Just to add to my frustration, my desktop (Windows 8.1) on which I usually employ Chrome, loaded just fine and streamed the video immediately.

On my systems, the latest update to Chrome won't connect to any web page, including the Google home page, without crashing. The latest ESR version of Firefox isn't much better - it crashes every 5 minutes. There are no add-ons in use with either browser.

Ran through everything listed in that article to no avail. Thanks for your help with Chrome though. I guess I will just have to switch browsers for that website.
