    4K Video Card

Currently, I have a Samsung 46 inch 1080p LED as my monitor. My current video card is GeForce 8800GTS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143119

My video card connects fine through the DVI port.

My wife is planning to buy a LG 42 inch 4K UHD for my birthday. I believe this TV has a refresh rate of 240hz. This means that I will need to get a new video card to be able to display 4K resolution.

I read that regular HDMI will not support 4K. A video card with HDMI 2.0 port and HDMI 2.0 cable are a must. Anything else? What should I be looking for in this new video card to display 4K resolution?

nVidia 900 series cards should work. If you are gaming, a 980GTX would be the way to go.

    There are other considerations also.

    Possibly useful links:

JDC, I saw the other two articles before I started this thread. However, your third article (PC World) is really good and pretty much covers all my questions. Thanks

I think I will be holding off on 4K since video cards supporting those TVs seem to be still in the beta stage.

I will ask my wife to buy me power tools instead, for this birthday. Maybe my next birthday will visit 4K again.

I have 2 large 4K TV's I'm using as monitors. I'm using XFX R9 290 & 290X GPU's to drive them. I was using a MSI HD 7950 with one of them with great results until I upgraded. A used HD 7950 or 7970 can be found for under $130 with a bit of searching. It's been my experience the AMD-based GPU's do better at 4K than the Nvidia offerings.
