Downloading with FF38
What ho one and all,
As usual with upgrades, I get annoyed and confused. Previously, I was suing FF24ESR and all was hunky dory (within reason!)
Owning to a few issues, I have upgraded and am now on FF38 and it bugs the hell out of me. Previously, using whatever version of Download Helper, it did what it says on the box without any issues. With 38 and whatever DH version, it is not working at all and I have no idea why.
Additinally, the download panel has gone. Can I get it back and if so, how?
Toodle pip and thanks
Rex

Never use a download helper, they messed up to many downloads for me.
I get the latest from here

When a new version of Firefox is released, plugins from previous versions usually do not work with the new version. You may have to wait until the plugin is updated to work with the new version, assuming that it ever will be. If the "download panel" you are referring to was a part of the plugin, then you would need an updated plugin to get it back. If it was part of the previous version of Firefox, then you will have to hope that they just buried it somewhere in the user interface to make it "easier" to use, and an extensive search may uncover it.

Can you give us a link to the download helper you're referring to if it's an add-on of some kind?

Upgrading everything is such a pain and that is why I continue to use the older version, which work (ed!) for me.
The Download Helper site that I was previous using is http://www.downloadhelper.net/. As an aside, I did wonder if the site had blocked download, but checked with my VM (firefox 24) and the plug-in still works. So I can only guess that FF38 has something else going on inside blocking downloads.
On a different topic, what has happened to the search box? Previously, I could bring up a search history, now I cannot. Where has it gone?

Is the extension still showing in Tools>addons>extensions? Try uninstalling it then reinstalling it or just installing it over the top of itself.
Chances are though that, as already suggested, it may just not work with the latest Firefox and you'll need to wait until the people who make the extension fix it.

Video Download Helper 5.4.1 works on FF38, so there is something else going on. Try disabling other addons and see what happens.

I have been having a frustrating time recently with FF up-grades. Some add-ons work, other don't, even though the add-on version number says it will work with whatever FF version.
Video Download Helper is not working at all in any FF version that I install although the VDH page says that it is compatible. So I'm back to FF24 ESR that DH is working, as are all of my add-ons.
I have triec trouble-shooting mode, and reinstalling various add-ons, but almost every time I have to restart FF, the interface jumps to something that I have not set in Customise and buttons change position or vanish altogether. How complex can this be?

You are experiancing the issue that led to me using Chrome as my primary browser. I still use Forefox at times, but...

It sounds more like a profile problem, rather than FF itself.
