Putting XP On a Quad Processor

I was told by a computer builder that you can't put XP on a quad processor. Is that true? I wouldn't think it would matter.

    Thanks

I'm guessing you mean a Quad CORE processor, not 4 physical CPUs.

XP Home supports 1 physical CPU and XP Pro supports 2 physical CPUs. You can have multiple cores on each CPU. Long story short, XP would work fine with a quad core CPU.

Yes I meant quad core. I wonder why the person would tell me that it wasn't okay. Thanks for the info. I have two older music programs that were 3 and 4 hundred dollars apiece and only work up to XP. They do everything I ever want them to do and I don't want to upgrade to newer ones.

    Thanks

Eventually you might want to see if those programs will run on a newer OS using compatibility mode...

works with Win 8 too. I run an older version music/sound related program called Smaart on my Win 8.1 tablet in that mode. I had to run its installer that way too.

Jasc Paint Shop Pro Ver 7, Windows 98 program, runs just fine using compatibility mode in Vista, Win 7 and Win 10 Preview.
