    sound control idcon is missing from system tray win xp

    system tray sound control icon is missing and in control panel sounds the box us grayed out.
    is there an app to fix this issue.
    please let me know how to restore the icon.

    It would help if you said what kind of sound card you have.

    Did you check that the sound card is working properly in Device Manager?

    If it's an onboard sound card, did you check the BIOS to make sure it is enabled?

    Did you try a System Restore to a point where the sound card was working?

    So it's definitely onboard audio. Make/model? If you don't give us details, how do you expect to get help?
