    EME-free Firefox downloads

    Mozilla has released the first version of its Firefox browser to include support for Encrypted Media Extensions, a controversial World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) spec that brings digital rights management (DRM) to HTML5's video tag.

    The nonprofit grudgingly agreed to add EME support to Firefox last year, despite the vocal objections of both Mozilla's then-CTO Brendan Eich and the Free Software Foundation.

    EME = Encrypted Media Extensions
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encryp...dia_Extensions

    As of 2014, the Encrypted Media Extensions interface has been implemented in the Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Safari web browsers. Mozilla's Firefox web browser will not support EME directly, but is planned to have a mechanism for running a third-party implementation of EME within a sandbox. This has been the subject of controversy within the Mozilla community. Firefox added support for EME for Windows Vista and later with Firefox 38. Support is added through the Adobe Primetime CDM add-on, which can easily be disabled.

    If you already installed FF38, you can just disable EME.

    Disable the Adobe Primetime CDM without uninstalling

    Disabling Adobe Primetime from the Add-ons Manager prevents it from running on your computer and prevents future updates from downloading. To disable the CDM plugin:

    Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
    In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Plugins panel.
    Select Never Activate on the menu next to Adobe Primetime DRM.
    Another way to disable it is to go to Menu - Options - Content and unchecking the "Play DRM Content" box.
    Close Firefox and delete the gmp-eme-adobe file within your Firefox profile folder.
