Firefox, menu bar height
What ho one and all,
Two days ago, my Firefox decided to throw a mini-spanner into the works. Ignoring the fact that I am using 24ESR (I'm happy with it , it works, I like the look) I have done nothing, added nothing but something is causing it to change.
I am using Littlefox to give as much space as possible and on the menu bar the icons have the text beside them.

Also with this configuration, the tabs are not tall and the tool bar at the bottom, is equally narrow.
Then something happened and blam, the text is under the icon, the tabs have increased in height, as has the tool bar.

I have restored to the profile I want, but within a few hours, restarting FF and it jumps to the second image. I have not added any new extensions, tweaked any of them, in fact, I have done nothing.
any idea why this would be happening?
Thanks and toodle pip,
Rex

R-click the right of the tab and uncheck that silly bar

I would guess that you held the CTRL Key and used the mouse wheel to adjust the size... Try it and see if it can undo it

FF24ESR-c (Medium).jpgTrain,
Not sure what you mean by 'that silly bar.' But right clicking only brings up the options for various bars and the ones showing is how I have had FF for years; Menu, Navigation, Google and Add-on at the bottom.
Steve,
I did use Cnt and + to increase the screen font display recently, but that has no affect on the menu / too bars. I have restored a profile made one month ago, and although that starts fine, after a few and may be a FF restart because I have shut-down the computer, it returns to this increased size.
And take a look at this attachment. This is what happens when I opened my first attachment in a new tab! The screenshot is opening displayed in the tab so the tab bar is massive!

I have run a virus check/ MSE / Malwarebytes and it all come up clean.

Is FF in Full Screen mode? Using a window smaller than fulls screen and make objects move around.

Fair enough! Certainly there are a few buttons that I virtually never use (Print Preview / Print Edit / Save.) But Page Colours is one that I use frequently.
Anyway, just replaced the profile again (about forth time today) and for the moment, it is working as it should. Time will tell although I have not done anything to 'fix' it. May be have to reinstall FF, but if I do that, then load my saved Profile folder, that is likely to create the same issue again; is it not?

Yes it would. Best to start over from scatch in a situation like this.
Now it I want the menu bar, the ALT key will bring it up. Learned that so I could print selections on webpages. Well that is MY easy way.

Alt; interesting, didn't know that.
Have managed to get the bars back to the size that I want by having text only, but that is not how it was. But if I select one of the images above as 'open in new tab', it not only opens but also displays full size in the tab itself.
Since restoring a profile does not solve the problem, I guess the issue is with the program files. Will reinstall when I have the time.

Doesn't make sense. Removed FF and reinstalled, restored my profile from a back-up of a few weeks ago, and all initially looked OK.
Rebooted the computer, started FF and it is giving this annoying issue. Removed FF again, and installed my previous versions FF20.0.1. and after a FF restart, the same thing is happening. Even went through the reg to ensure that all FF / Mozilla references were removed.
What is really annoying is that some web sites have a logo that appears to the left of the tab. Depending upon the size of that logo, so the tab bar changes its height. So my home page has a tall tab, but go to the BBC and it is a narrow tab.
I have FF24ESR on my VM so have copied the profile from there to my main machine and still that same issue. Not happening on the VM at all.

Steve,
Sorry and no, FF is always in Full Screen. However, I thought I would save time by taking the sledge hammer to it and resorted the OS from an image taken one month ago.
To date, that is partly successful; the tab bar is still the same height irrespective of which site I am visiting; clicking on an image link in this posting opens the image as it should (not full size in the tab!) but both the menu and add-on bar are taking up more screen space than they did previously. And I know this image was a good one!
There are two partial solutions but I don't really like either, or more specifically, I will have to learn to live with them. I like small icons and text (I use Littlefox) but either one or the other has the bars at the correct height.
