program to convert m4a to mp3

When I d/l podcasts they are sometimes to big for the online converters to work so need a program to convert mp4 or m4a files to mp3 for my old mp3 player. The program I had kept saying I needed to update it and when I did it installed a whole bunch of trash on here and had to have Broni help me clean it. So now I can't convert any of the files I get from Spacemusic.nl or form the other site I d/l from in Australia, for some reason I can't remember the name of it right now but anyway though they play in windows media they won't on my san dic mp3 player. Ultimate Thule is the site I download podcasts from.
