    CD/DVD PLAYER DEAD?

    Pavilion p7-1108p Desktop
    AMD Processor

I'm looking for the specs for the above 5-yr-old HP desktop. I'm surprised that the hp website doesn't even show it as a past system, but nothing surprises me about HP anymore, I suppose.

Yesterday, the CD/DVD both stopped working. The component tries to start when a disc is inserted, but it then quickly stops, and that's it. I'll be happy to visit a local electronics big box store to purchase/install a new unit in the tower (done that with other systems before), but I'd like a feel for what I should look for at said store, specifically, model, drivers included, etc. Or maybe a new set of drivers can breathe life back into what's installed in the tower now? I tried using Device Manager yesterday to solve the problem, i. e., deleting current drivers and restarting so that new could be installed, but I still have the same problem.

    Anyone help please?

    Thanks,

    sbuxman

After 5 years, it's probably the lasers are gone out. They are cheap enough now that buying a new one would solve your problem.
