    DVD Burning issues

    Hi All LTNS,

I am having problems making my laptop burn a DVD. I have tried different types of discs (DVD R and DVDRW) and different software, Windows, Burnaware and Nero so far. I have used all of these in the past and had no problems.

What I am trying to achieve is a simple disc full of photographs that will play on any DVD player. I have also tried just backing up as data.

The programs seem to be working and off the disc goes with all it's burning sounds and timing. At the end of the process I get the message that there was an error and the disc may not be usable again. The discs when put into a different computer show as being empty.

My hardware is Toshiba Satelite L850-166, Intel core i3, 8GB ram, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Have I missed something? Any ideas?

    Thank you

Sure sounds like a defective DVD Drive.

Thanks for your reply, I was hoping it was me being stupid and forgetting something, but yes I will have to take it back to the shop for a replacement drive.

Something you could try before heading to the shop---run a cd/dvd cleaning disk. It's a disk with tiny cleaning brushes on it that cleans the Laser in the drive. Available at computer shops or most any store that sells cd/dvd's. Many times has been known to clear problems.

Hi dneilson, thanks for your reply. I have now tried to run a cleaner and now the drive won't even read a disc or a cleaning one. I think it is dead and will need replacing now.

    Thanks all for your help

OK, it was worth a try but the drive is dead. You might want to replace the drive yourself and save some money, it's quite easy. Shop online for a drive at a good price and here's how to install it. -----------
