Client.exe in c:\Program Files\Search Extensions missing cannot go onto Internet
Hi all,
I am using XP Pro SP3, AVG AntiVirus had just removed Client.exe from c:\Program Files\Search Extensions. And when I restarted my desktop, I cannot go onto Internet.
When using Chrome to go online : The error message is "Unable to connect to the proxy server".
When using IE: The error message is "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".
When using Firefox: The error message is "The proxy server is refusing connections".
How can I recover from this error without using Restore?

Check to see if that malware has altered the proxy settings within each browser.
For Firefox and IEX see pics below.. choose no proxy for both. Not sure about Chrome, I don't have it installed but it should be pretty easy to find it in it's own options.
EDIT- for Chrome.. https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/96815?hl=en

Additionally it would be a good idea to do a scan with Malwarebytes to make sure there aren't any residual bits of that malware still lurking.

many thanks.
With XP, the IE is still in Version 8.
For the record for future reference, I have fixed Chrome as follows:
Go to CUSTOMIZE AND CONTROL GOOGLE CHROME
then SETTINGS
then go to bottom, and click SHOW ADVANCED SETTING
then scroll down to NETWORK and then CHANGE PROXY SETTINGS
then LOCAL AREA NETWORK (LAN) SETTING
then unclick PROXY SERVER (to disable 'Use a proxy server for your LAN)
