UPGRADE TO WIN 7 32-bit?
Morning and Happy 4th!!
I'm considering spending $100 for a copy of Win 7 32-bit which will do a clean install on the below system and get me started with a fresh copy of 7, replacing the XP I still have and now don't want. I also don't mind upgrading the memory sticks to 2 1 MB sticks from the 512 each I have now if that might make any difference?
Is it worth a try?
Thank you,
sbuxman

Pavilion dv1000h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00033108&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en
Must be 30 versions of that laptop

Thank you, Train...
The sticky on the bottom of the system says service tag dv1580se, and has a more specific s/n and p/n for Product: HP Pavilion dv1000. When I enter the former, dv1580se, into the link you provided in post #3, I'm taken to a driver page specific to that model. Is it safe to assume that I can go with those drivers rather than those which might be different for one of the 2 more generic in the 28 matches on the link page, dv1000 CTO or dv1000?
Thanks as always!

I also attempted, unsuccessfully, to find a M*Soft site or link that can run a Win 7 Compatibility Test that helps determine if one's system is even capable of supporting 7. Have you heard of such an animal?
Thanks.

Windows 7 compatibility test links:

Note: If HP has Vista drivers for your PC, they will probably work with Windows 7.

Honestly, I wouldn't spend money on that system. There are even some really cheap laptops out now that will run circles around a Pentium M with 1GB ram. I would at least shop around first.
Of course, the new laptops would come with Win8.1, but there are ways to make it more Win7-like.

I use Pentium M/P4 laptops for linux rigs.
Unless I am answering specific questions or work, that Linux is what i normally use.
Now if it will take a SSD , that would really, nicely speed things up.
What I did with a Satellite C655D-S5300

Linux would run fine, but Windows 7 would be slow, even if he bought extra ram.
Just an example, Best Buy has a Toshiba laptop with a Celeron, 4GB RAM, 500GB HD for $263. I know Celerons are not the greatest and no DVD drive, but it's a budget laptop.
